20240908 Flaky data providers + one missed buyout opportunity
DKK INR NOK AND SEK portfolio trades for Sept 2024
Hi all, and welcome to the Two Crows Week#2 portfolio picks for September 2024, in which we apply stock picks for DDK, INR, NOK and SEK currencies.
Its been quite a busy week as not one, not two, but three separate data feeds (across two different data providers) that I rely upon for my analysis and benchmarking all became unavailable within days of eachother. Specifically, currency conversions APIs changed, ETF benchmark APIs changed, and also certain performance metrics related to individual stocks became suddenly entirely inaccessible, perhaps never to return.
As a result, my analytics capabilities (temporarily but annoyingly) ground to a halt and forced me to make urgent repairs. I’ve hurriedly dropped in patches to update my infrastructure and adapt to the changes made by the two data providers in question.
That said, I will likely further adapt the code in my data retrieval module over the coming weeks to switch over to a new service, one hopefully more reliable and less subject to unannounced changes.
Monthly portfolio commentary
With that frustration out the way, I’ll make it quick. Nothing too exciting to report as most stock picks this month are familiar faces and existing positions. Perhaps the only thing really noteworthy is Concentric AB (in Swedish Krona) coming in #8 in the SEK rankings, only to be ineligible for selection on closer inspection.
Why, you ask?
Well, take a quick peak at the following stock price chart, and see if you can figure out on which date Concentric was recently subject to a takeover bid by Moeller-Maesrk.
So, no Concentric purchases for us.
